"The Back Story"
Bob Scheffler (PRICOM Design), and
Fantasonics Engineering have been
a match made in Heaven from the outset back in 2005. Before that
I had been using CD players for layout sound, they sounded good
but they were 'touchy' when barely bumped, like when you pushed
the 'play' button:)! I'd long dreamed of a 'solid state' player,
one with no moving parts other than electrons, and one that could
be cue'd remotely and could interface with other layout systems.
Bob Scheffler, also a model railroader, wanted one of those too,
and had already invented it! Bob built the first 10 prototypes
and the first 5 were in my hands in just two weeks! They exceeded
all my dreams... .
A few years later I asked Bob if if
he would build a simple filter circuit that would strip a 20Khz
tone off the top of two audio channels so I could synchronize
light with the audio below. He built it, I'm sure it works a
treat... but I never got a chance to test it! Before I could,
Bob said, 'there might be a better way to synchronize linear
control... using MIDI control data'. Bob 'firmwired' the PRO
player control outputs from simple on/off to smooth linear control...
and did it without changing the Dream Player PRO circuitry in
any way!
The PRICOM Design Dream Player 'PRO
MIDI' feature was enabled!
With PRICOM's amazing Dream Player
PRO-MIDI features we can scratch build smooth linear Scale Magic lighting FX, and Scale Magic animation
control, in perfect synchronization with a Scale Magic
soundtrack of any length...
This honestly rivals themepark show
control!
You've got to be careful what you
wish out loud for around Bob, he has a habit of making dreams
come true.
Introducing...
"R-T-R" because they're
shipped ready to run right out of the box...
"Craftsman Kits" because
YOU install it in your layout's scene!

To learn about the creative Nuts &
Bolts of this innovation, download and read any of the FX Addenda
to The Scale Magic
Sound Owner's Manual, below. AND...
Even if you don't want to hire the
RailRoadies... you you might want to go ahead and download all
six of the FX Addenda (.PDF's) They're full of
illustrations and ideas, and together they're a complete tutorial
on creative layout lighting! And they're free:).
FX Addendum No.1
describes the basics of traditional theatrical lighting and just
how easily they can be applied in scale.
Addendum No. 1 can improve your layout lighting in any event,
with or without a Kit :). Addenda 2-6 each describe one of the
five FX families we currently offer in greater detail, but Addendum
No. 1 should always be read first.
FX Addendum No. 2:
describes structure Interior lighting techniques and teaches
how to get the most enchanting results with Scale Magic
FX in your structures and buildings. There are several
FX options from which you might choose. It is a terrific tutorial
on the topic in it's own right.
FX Addendum No. 3:
The Visible Lanterns Addendum describes how to install and apply
our visible lantern models in any scene and scale. Adding a visible
lantern (or two or more :) is easy and will add inhabitant life,
character, and personality to most any scene.
FX Addendum No. 4:
Visible Fires are described in this Addendum. A transparent flame(s)
is projected up onto a clear screen, and changes size, shape,
color, and brightness with FX control in sync with the sound
of the fire. You might apply a visible fire as a campfire, or
as the fire in a sawdust burner, or in a steam boiler, or in
a stove or fireplace, or anywhere the flames will be directly
viewed.
FX Addendum
No. 5: Scale Magic Welding & grinding is lightyears beyond anything
you've ever seen... or heard! For one thing, the sound is Scale
Magic sound,
and it's perfectly synchronized with the FX along a scene's time
line of any length. It's not constant, it's not repetitive, it's
not predictable, it's not mono, and it's not data compressed...
And it sounds exactly like it looks because
it's designed to! It sounds real because it's in a Scale Magic Image! We can even add
scale distance!
FX Addendum
No. 6: Fireflies (Lightening Bugs) are
described in this Addendum. They're not just random blinking,
each firefly spark is scratch built and placed along the soundtrack's
timeframe.
Fireflies are easy to apply and will add spell binding enchantment
to any outdoor scene.
It's up to you! You might want a lighted building interior, a
single visible lantern outside that building, and two fireflies
in the background. Or four fireflies. Or... ?
It Just Works...
Within the Dream Player PRO itself
you can have ANY combination of any four FX from the five families
in the FX Addenda.
Or you might want four different interior lighting FX in four
separate buildings. Or you might wish to have welding or grinding
in a shop or roundhouse, a pot belly stove fire burning away
in the office, and a visible lantern hanging outside. Or you
might wish to allocate all four FX outputs to build an amazing
visible fire congflagation... it's entirely up to you.
Want a lighting effect or animation control not described in
the addenda? With PRICOM Design's PNET Protocol, DC Controller,
and HEX Driver accessories, we can synchronize up to thirty-two
(32!) channels of linear MIDI control outputs.
Pretty much anything you can imagine...
