The first in our "Signature Series" of small industry switching scenes, Popp's Perfect Paper Products, a division of Popp's Mills (say it fast:), has been at the same rural location down near the water's edge, for many years now. They must be doing something right, they've been doing it for a long time. While personnel and machines come and go (most stay till they drop), the basic processes for making paper, and paper products, have not really changed all that much over the years. Located some distance from everything, a rail connection is essential, both to get pulp form their sister pulp mill (Popp's Pulp), and to deliver their various paper products to distant customers. Intended as a transition era mill, this scene could actually be an operating paper mill almost anytime in the last 100 years... All the basic processes are represented here, water pumps and more pumps, materials handling, mixing, spreading, pressing, and drying... cutting, spindling, folding and mutilating... Popp's does it all. This small to medium industry is set in a Scale Magic(TM) proprietary image depicting a rural setting, somewhere near the water's edge (day & night). Track one (14:32) is a typical quiet day shift. Always something going on... Track two (14:37) starts off slowly, but in no time flat there is a break down. It takes a while, some arguing and some hard work, but they're back up and running... just in time for the shift change. Track three (9:24) is a short, but very busy shift (perhaps making up for lost time?). Track four (14:32) portrays a typical busy day shift for the mill. Track five (7:45) is night.
