The original concept art & the tower before weathering...
The original art, dashed out on a post-it, was translated into 2 'nGa.1 (pronounced "two foot narrow gauge one..."). The first order of business was to cut the vertical leg beams so that they could be boiled, that's right, boiled. When they were good and tender, they were put up in a jig for bending/warping in the vice. I built this piece specifically for the article on weathering (at "The Yerz Ore Mine"). Although completely assembled for the "before" shots, it can be completely dismantled for weathering the various parts individually. The design just happens to encompass all of the techniques we will describe in the weathering series...
